Job Description

This leading offshore law firm is looking to bolster its Guernsey based Corporate team with the addition of one or two lawyers at Associate level. It is an outstanding move for someone who thrives on high-value and complex corporate/transactional work but who craves a more personable culture and relaxed lifestyle than that in a typical big firm onshore. Joining a relatively small but impressive team, you will notice a great deal of variety in the work and you will enjoy lots of client contact and plenty of autonomy. Opportunities for progression are good, whether on island or elsewhere in the firm’s network of international/offshore offices.

CRITERIA:
• UK/Commonwealth admission.
• The firm is in growth mode and has openings across the ‘Associate’ level. Ideal pqe level is likely to be in the NQ to 5 years’ range but all levels with the appropriate profile will be considered.
• Relevant experience of high-quality corporate work is a requirement, although lawyers from a more specialist background (e.g. funds, banking, capital markets) who are keen to take on a broader role are also welcome. You are likely to work/have worked with a UK City/National/top-tier regional firm or an equivalent practice overseas.
• Excellent technical and communication skills with the adaptability to take on a diverse practice.

LOCATION:
When describing Guernsey, it is difficult to look past the stunning coastline and pristine beaches, but for many who settle here, they are just one of many attractions that make this such a great location in which to build your career. The island’s blue-chip reputation among offshore financial centres means that professionally, you will do some fantastic legal work that will stand you in good stead anywhere in the world. The City calibre experience comes without the trappings of a City lifestyle. Work-life balance is good, the social scene is lively, and you will have plenty of time to enjoy yourself, whether you are learning to surf, visiting a beachside restaurant, joining a local sports club or just hanging out with family and friends. Get in touch for a copy of our Channel Islands guide.

SALARY:
Expected range likely to be from £70k at NQ to around £100k at the more senior level.  The firm will also offer a relocation allowance and all the usual benefits.

DETAILS:
First interviews will take place via telephone or videoconference, typically followed by a visit to the island (for lawyers based in Europe anyway). Start dates depend on your notice period but typically around four or five months from application (if three months’ notice). All applications treated as confidential. Speak to Jason Horobin or Charlotte Hooper at Origin Legal for more information about this and similar international roles.
