Job Description

A move to Guernsey can offer a junior banking and finance lawyer the opportunity to get hands on experience across a diverse range of work. Joining a small team, you will get plenty of involvement and client contact from the outset, making this quite a contrast to some of the larger onshore practices – ideal if you want to fast-track your development. Working on high-value matters for an international client base, you could find yourself advising on structured/leveraged finance, asset finance, real estate finance or more general banking work. This is high-quality experience that will serve as a fantastic platform for your career, whether you remain offshore or return onshore.

The Channel Islands

For a city-based lawyer who thrives on big-ticket work but craves an escape from the rat race, few places compete with the Channel Islands, home to two of the world’s premier offshore financial centres. Jersey and Guernsey have strong and highly competitive legal sectors, housing teams that number many alumni of the leading London or international outfits amongst their ranks. They do complex blue-chip work, in a nice environment without the trappings of a big law firm culture. Work-life balance tends to be good, leaving plenty of time to enjoy what is an enviable coastal lifestyle and London is only an hour away making it easy to get that city fix when (or if) you need it.

Process

Interviews will take place by videoconference with start dates typically around 3-4 months later (depending on your notice period). Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with visas (where required) and relocation.

Requirements

The role is likely to suit someone with 0-2 years’ experience. You will be admitted in the UK, Ireland or in a Commonwealth jurisdiction (e.g. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa). Applicants will need strong academics (2.1 minimum) and will have trained/practised with a respected City, regional UK or international firm. Strong general banking and finance experience would be ideal but lawyers with specialist experience (e.g. structured, leveraged, asset, real estate finance) who are happy to take on a broader workload, would also be a good fit.

Package

Good salary (likely to be in the range of £70k-£90k) with reduced tax rate (20%). Comprehensive benefits, bonus, and relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance).

Origin Legal International
