This year 1751 participants took on the huge challenge of walking 100km across the most spectacular scenery and toughest terrain, through the day and night from the start in Old Deer Park in Richmond to the finish line of Brighton Racecourse. It was a huge test of stamina and endurance (both physical and mental!) to cover both the distance and the varying terrain in one go.
Torrential rain in the days leading up to the event made the going very wet underfoot but luckily the sun came out to see us off in London and the rain stayed away for the duration of the event.
Starting in Richmond in London the route followed the Thames before heading south into the suburbs of London, then on through the heart of Surrey and Sussex, over the South Downs towards the finish line in Brighton. The route was 1/3 on roads and 2/3 off road on footpaths and bridleways with a total of 1,400 metres of ascent. Luckily we had taken the training seriously, making sure our shoes were well worn in, sparing us any trips to the dreaded blister doctors along the route!
The feeling of achievement and overwhelming relief on crossing the finish line in Brighton is certainly one we will never forget. So far as a team we have raised over £6750 for our charities.
