How to ace your CV and Cover letter

Acing your CV and cover letter is one of the most important parts of the recruitment process, they are how you make your first impression to your potential future boss. We thought we’d give you some tips on how to make sure your CV and cover letter are top-notch.

Make your CV a breeze to read.

It’s been a long day and the decision-maker has sorted through hundreds of candidates, reading CV and cover letters that look more like essays. To help you stand out from the crowd try to include bullet points in your CV, to help break up long paragraphs and give the recruiter the important information.

Make your cover letter targeted to the role.

You can lose a role within the first sentence of a cover letter, so make sure that you’re not using a generic cover letter. Ensure it’s targeted to the specific role you’re applying for, explain why you think you’d be a good fit and why you want this specific role. It’s your time to shine!

Try to leave off words such as ‘duties’ in your previous experience section

When writing about previous work experience, try and discuss things that you accomplished in that role, rather than things that you were supposed to do. Recruiters are looking for things that set you apart from other candidates.

Try to give your CV identity without oversharing

When writing your CV it can be easy to go on and on about your interests and hobbies, this isn’t always what a recruiter is looking for. Try instead to discuss things you’ve achieved that you think will give you an advantage over other candidates.

These are some of our top tips for writing your cv/ cover letter. Let us know if there are any tips you have.
