Overview of the opportunity:

We are recruiting on behalf of one of the UK’s leading regional law firms as they are looking for a senior Planning Lawyer to join their nationally renowned Planning Team, advising on a broad range of planning and development projects. Working on a national basis, the team is spread throughout the firm’s offices in the East and West Midlands, but this role will predominantly be based out of their Birmingham office.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years PQE in UK planning law, gained within a recognised planning law practice. Depending on experience, it is anticipated that the chosen candidate will be joining at Senior Associate or Partner level.

This opportunity is ideally suited to those with existing contact bases wishing to make the step up to partnership, or existing partners (perhaps with a team) with a strong reputation in planning who wish to join a successful, entrepreneurial and vibrant firm which is growing and investing.

Description of the work:

This Chambers and Legal 500 ranked Planning Practice cover all areas of planning law, acting for commercial and residential developers, including a number of National housebuilders, landowners, local authorities and NHS Trusts on both contentious and non-contentious matters.

The team work closely with colleagues in the real estate (development and finance) and corporate teams to provide practical solutions to meet clients’ development needs.

Their experience includes dealing with planning applications, appeals and inquiries, Local and Neighbourhood Plan processes, Certificates of Lawful Use, judicial reviews and statutory planning challenges, planning enforcement, highways issues, section 106 agreements, section 278 agreements, advising on Community Infrastructure Levy and advising parties on the promotion and objection to Compulsory Purchase Orders and Development Consent Orders and related process.

Candidate Requirements:

  • UK Qualified Solicitor with at least 5 years PQE
  • Senior Legal Planning professional with gravitas, credibility and management experience
  • Demonstrable track record of working on UK planning law projects ideally from a recognised Planning Law Practice
  • Ability to utilise contacts and clients to develop future business and grow a team
  • Ability to actively promote the Planning Practice and firm on a national platform
