Job Description

Corporate Solicitor – NQ+ Surrey

This position exists for a technically strong, personable and ambitious lawyer, looking to pursue a career in corporate finance in the long term with one of the top corporate finance practices in the South East outside London.

The corporate finance team is part of the company commercial group, one of the main lawyer groups within the firm. In addition to corporate finance, the group has specialist teams in banking and finance, commercial and competition.

The company commercial group is one of the largest practices in the South East outside London and is rated in the top tiers of both Chambers and Legal 500. Nine of the group’s lawyers are recommended by the principal legal directories as leaders in their field.

The corporate finance team has 6 partners and 12 other lawyers, including two dedicated professional support lawyers.

The work of the team is diverse but key areas are:

  • Mergers and Acquisitions (both buy side and sell side)
  • Venture capital and private equity (sponsor and management team roles)
  • Fundraising and equity and capital markets
  • Joint ventures
  • General corporate advisory
  • Accelerated M & A, restructuring and insolvency
  • Often cases have an international flavour and the team frequently works with law firms in other jurisdictions.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have the drive and an enthusiasm for a broad diet of corporate finance work but experience in all of the above areas is not required and all team members have areas of greater specialisation with the opportunity to become a “go to” lawyer in areas of particular interest. An appetite for business development will be a definite advantage. Successful candidates are also likely to be strong team players with good interpersonal skills, to have strong academics and high-quality experience – typically with a major City or leading national/regional practice – and to possess excellent communication and negotiation skills.  First-class support and learning and development opportunities are provided and early responsibility is offered.
