Few places can offer a lawyer the best of both worlds but in Jersey it really is possible to build a City calibre legal career whilst enjoying a lifestyle that is simply unattainable in London or another major urban centre.
Lawyers in this leading offshore firm are engaged in high-quality and complex international legal work, often in a far more ‘hands-on’ role than might be typical in a larger City type firm. They enjoy a strong low tax earning potential and are encouraged to begin building client contacts from day one, making for excellent career prospects. The working culture is friendly and relaxed but at the same time highly ambitious, with a real focus on developing commercial as well as technical acumen. Whether focusing on corporate, investment funds, or the burgeoning cryptocurrency sector, the experience you gain here will provide an excellent platform for your longer-term career.
The Channel Islands
For a city-based lawyer who thrives on big-ticket work but craves an escape from the rat race, few places compete with the Channel Islands, home to two of the world’s premier offshore financial centres. Jersey and Guernsey have strong and highly competitive legal sectors, housing teams that number many alumni of the leading London or international outfits amongst their ranks. They do complex blue-chip work, in a nice environment without the trappings of a big law firm culture. Work-life balance tends to be good, leaving plenty of time to enjoy what is an enviable coastal lifestyle and London is only an hour away making it easy to get that city fix when (or if) you need it.
Interviews will take place by videoconference with start dates typically around 3-4 months later (depending on your notice period). Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with visas (where required) and relocation.
The role is likely to suit someone with 0-2 years’ experience. You will be admitted in the UK, Ireland or in a Commonwealth jurisdiction (e.g. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa). Applicants will need strong academics (2.1 minimum) and will have trained/practised with a respected City, regional UK or international firm, including experience in at least one of corporate, banking & finance, or investment funds. You will be a confident communicator who enjoys client contact.
