Job Description
An opening exists for an experienced UK/ Commonwealth qualified corporate lawyer to join the Guernsey office of this major offshore law firm. Focusing on a range of transactions under Guernsey law, you will be working closely with highly respected experts in the field, on a broad practice that is likely to focus on corporate but may also include some banking and finance, and investment funds work. It will be ideal for someone who is looking to do top-tier international work but who craves a less rigid environment than that which can be found in some large onshore firms, and who is attracted by the significant advantages of low-tax island life. You will have lots of variety, lots of responsibility and you will be heavily involved in the client management and business development efforts of the team.
This is a meritocratic environment in which lawyers are supported in developing their careers, so it will suit someone who wants to really push on with their career development. There is no obligation to relocate at any point but there will likely be opportunities to move to other offshore jurisdictions in the future if the successful candidate wishes to.
The Channel Islands
For a city-based lawyer who thrives on big ticket work but craves an escape from the rat race, few places compete with the Channel Islands, home to two of the world’s premier offshore financial centres. Jersey and Guernsey have strong and highly competitive legal sectors, housing teams that number many alumni of the leading London or international outfits amongst their ranks. They do complex blue-chip work, in a nice environment without the trappings of a big law firm culture. Work-life balance tends to be good, leaving plenty of time to enjoy what is an enviable coastal lifestyle and London is only an hour away making it easy to get that city fix when (or if) you need it.
Process
Interviews will take place by videoconference with start dates typically around 3-4 months later (depending on your notice period). Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with visas (where required) and relocation.
Requirements
The role is likely to suit applicants with around 3-6 years’ experience in one of corporate, finance or funds gained with a good commercial law firm, or with another leading offshore practice. You will have commercial acumen and strong communication skills, and you will relish the opportunity to build your network of client contacts. You will be admitted in the UK, Ireland or in a Commonwealth jurisdiction (e.g. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa).
Package
Good salary (expected range £85k-£110k) with reduced tax rate (20%). Comprehensive benefits, bonus, and relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance)
