Job Description
This well-known offshore law firm is looking for a commercial litigation/ dispute resolution lawyer for its thriving Guernsey team. Joining at a relatively junior level, you will quickly get involved in a wide range of contentious work which might cover anything from contractual/shareholder disputes and insolvency to complex cross-border banking or financial services litigation. You will be client facing and immersed in every aspect of the work, albeit with the help of some of the best lawyers on the island, so this is perfect for someone who really wants to get hands on experience. Consequently, the future prospects look good, whether remaining offshore or moving on.
The Channel Islands
For a city-based lawyer who thrives on big-ticket work but craves an escape from the rat race, few places compete with the Channel Islands, home to two of the world’s premier offshore financial centres. Jersey and Guernsey have strong and highly competitive legal sectors, housing teams that number many alumni of the leading London or international outfits amongst their ranks. They do complex blue-chip work, in a nice environment without the trappings of a big law firm culture. Work-life balance tends to be good, leaving plenty of time to enjoy what is an enviable coastal lifestyle and London is only an hour away making it easy to get that city fix when (or if) you need it.
Process
Interviews will take place by videoconference with start dates typically around 3-4 months later (depending on your notice period). Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with visas (where required) and relocation.
Requirements
The role is likely to suit someone with 0-2 years’ experience of commercial/insolvency litigation. You will be admitted in the UK, Ireland or in a Commonwealth jurisdiction (e.g. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa). Applicants will need strong academics (2.1 minimum) and will have trained/practised with a respected City, regional or international firm (or a commercial/chancery chambers).
Package
Good salary (likely to be in the range of £70k-£90k) with reduced tax rate (20%). Comprehensive benefits, bonus, and relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance).
