Job Description

This global offshore heavyweight is seeking an experienced banking and finance lawyer for its highly successful Jersey practice. This could be the ideal move for someone who craves a change from city life but who wishes to maintain a fast-paced and challenging legal career in which you will be exposed to some of the biggest and best work in the market.

Joining as an experienced hire, you will enjoy extensive client contact and will be fully involved in the firm’s ongoing business development efforts. You will also take lead responsibility on various matters and will play a key role in helping to develop more junior-level colleagues. This is a fast-growing team and opportunities for progression are excellent.

The Channel Islands

For a city-based lawyer who thrives on big-ticket work but craves an escape from the rat race, few places compete with the Channel Islands, home to two of the world’s premier offshore financial centres. Jersey and Guernsey have strong and highly competitive legal sectors, housing teams that number many alumni of the leading London or international outfits amongst their ranks. They do complex blue-chip work, in a nice environment without the trappings of a big law firm culture. Work-life balance tends to be good, leaving plenty of time to enjoy what is an enviable coastal lifestyle and London is only an hour away making it easy to get that city fix when (or if) you need it.

Process

Interviews will take place by videoconference with start dates typically around 3-4 months later (depending on your notice period). Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with visas (where required) and relocation.

Requirements

The role is likely to suit someone with 3-6 years’ post-qualification experience, gained with a respected UK/equivalent law firm. It would suit someone with a broad/generalist banking and finance background but lawyers with more specialist experience (for example in structured, acquisition, leveraged, or real estate finance) are of equal interest. You will be admitted in the UK, Ireland or in a Commonwealth jurisdiction (e.g. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa).

Package

Good salary (expected range £90k-£120k) with reduced tax rate (20%). Comprehensive benefits, bonus, and relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance).
