Practice Area Banking & Finance
This elite offshore law firm offers banking & finance lawyers an opportunity to make a life-changing move without any compromise in quality of work or long-term career path. You will be joining a team that compares favourably with any major onshore practice, and which advises an international client base of banks, financial institutions and corporations, on the Jersey elements of high-value and complex cross-border transactions. You can expect a broad range of work with corporate/ acquisition finance, debt capital markets and funds finance/ real estate finance among the key areas of focus. There will be plenty of scope to take on responsibility and you will be involved in client-facing work and business development from the outset.
The Channel Islands
For a city-based lawyer who thrives on big-ticket work but craves an escape from the rat race, few places compete with the Channel Islands, home to two of the world’s premier offshore financial centres. Jersey and Guernsey have strong and highly competitive legal sectors, housing teams that number many alumni of the leading London or international outfits amongst their ranks. They do complex blue-chip work, in a nice environment without the trappings of a big law firm culture. Work-life balance tends to be good, leaving plenty of time to enjoy what is an enviable coastal lifestyle and London is only an hour away making it easy to get that city fix when (or if) you need it.
Interviews will take place by videoconference with start dates typically around 3-4 months later (depending on your notice period). Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with visas (where required) and relocation.
The role is likely to suit someone with 0-2 years’ experience. You will be admitted in the UK, Ireland or in a Commonwealth jurisdiction (e.g. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa). Applicants will need strong academics (2.1 minimum) and will have trained/practised with a respected City, regional UK or international firm. Strong general banking and finance experience would be ideal but lawyers with specialist experience (e.g. structured, leveraged, asset finance) who are happy to take on a broader workload, would also be a good fit.
Good salary (likely to be in the range of £70k-£90k) with reduced tax rate (20%). Comprehensive benefits, bonus, and relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance).
