Job Description

If you are an ambitious Finance Lawyer who strives to do the best work, but who also craves a change of scene outside of the office, this could be just the role. You will join an impressive team (most of whom have a background in elite onshore firms) advising on the Cayman law aspects of some of the biggest and most complex matters in the legal world. Your client base will be multinational banks, financial institutions and corporations as well as their onshore legal advisors, so the professional challenge is undiminished.

What you will probably notice is an increased level of variety. Your work will span a broad range of finance work (albeit areas like leveraged finance, funds finance, and structured finance/capital markets tend to be busy), often requiring you to juggle multiple matters at any one time. Cayman lawyers invariably enjoy the pace and variety, not to mention the heavily client facing nature of the role. There will be no shortage of opportunities to build your network here.

Openings exist at the junior end (around 3 years’ pqe) and for a more senior associate (around 6 years’ pqe). In each case the opportunities for progression will be good, whether you remain in Cayman for the long term or choose to pursue a move to another part of the firm’s international network. Salaries are among the best in the market.

CRITERIA:

  • UK/Commonwealth admission.
  • Applications invited from lawyers with 2.5 to 6 years’ pqe (required for work permit reasons); roles exist at the lower and upper end of this scale.
  • City/International firm or equivalent banking and finance experience (either general or in a key specialist area such as banking, structured, leverage or funds finance).
  • Excellent technical and communication skills with the adaptability to take on a diverse practice.

LOCATION:

A pre-eminent global financial centre located just an hour from Miami, Grand Cayman offers you a Caribbean lifestyle with no compromise on quality of work, career progression or earning potential. In the office, you will advise international clients on high-value and complex matters, earning a lucrative tax-free salary. After hours, you live in a place that people spend thousands to visit. You can swim with sea turtles, stingrays or starfish, dive some of the world’s most interesting sites, socialise with friends in one of the many beachfront bars or restaurants, or just relax on the pristine sands of Seven Mile Beach. Check out our Cayman Guide for more information.

SALARY:

Highly attractive tax-free salary + benefits + relocation.

DETAILS:

Interviews take place via videoconference for start dates typically between four and six months from application (depending on your notice period). Speak to Jason Horobin or Charlotte Hooper at Origin Legal for more information about this and similar international roles.
