This team acts for numerous technology businesses ranging from early stage and owner-managed to PLCs and multinationals. They act for academic institutions that spin-out technology; for public sector and charitable funders of technology; for investors and for entrepreneurs. The role will be primarily non contentious. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in a respected team who are recognised for their commercial approach within an outstanding firm that is committed to the development of its people. Job outline The role holder will be responsible for: Advising clients on IP, IT and other commercial matters including, complex, high value, international trading agreements which may involve agency, distribution, data protection, IT related agreements, licensing and exploitation of intellectual property and corporate support. Developing relationships with clients including gaining a good knowledge of the client’s businesses, economic drivers, market conditions and sector developments in order to ensure advice is commercial. What we want are lawyers who want to be part of our clients’ businesses, not just legal advisers. To remain up to date with the most recent technical developments in law, legal practice and working methods (legal, business and operational) and to develop business and legal sector knowledge within the ICT, Life Sciences, BPO, Food, Digital Media and other sectors the team operates in. To engage in business development activities wherever possible, appropriate and reasonable (including on occasions outside normal working hours) and to be active in the promotion of the firm’s services, and in seeking opportunities for new commercial work. To undertake training (provided by the firm or at your own initiative, internally or externally) in order as a minimum to meet the Continuing Professional Development requirements of the Law Society, Institute of Legal Executives, Bar Council or other professional bodies responsible for governing your professional standards. To work as part of a close knit team including assisting with supervision of junior lawyers, work and sharing knowledge and experience generally. Person specification Essential Relevant experience in a busy Commercial Technology team 2-4 years PQE High attention to detail Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals Ability to use initiative and work well within a team Highly motivated and reliable Interested in business and how it works Interested in new technology
